During her lifetime, from 1919-2010, Isabella was immersed in learning about plants, especially seaweeds and the uses for limu (seaweeds) that she learned from Hawaiians, Tahitians, Samoan, Tongaan, Polynesians, Chinese, Japanese, Native Peoples of the California coastline, and anyone who knew of uses for any sea plant.
