The Beautiful Blonde from Bashful Bend is a 1949 romantic comedy Western film starring Betty Grable and featuring Cesar Romero and Rudy Vallee. It was directed by Preston Sturges and written by him based on a story by Earl Felton.
Saloon-bar singer Freddie gets very angry whenever boyfriend Blackie seems to be playing around. She always packs a six-shooter, so this is bad news for anything that happens to be in the way. As this is usually the local judge's rear-end, Freddie and friend Conchita are soon hiding out teaching school in the middle of nowhere.
A saloon girl (Betty Grable) shoots at her boyfriend (Cesar Romero), leaves town, poses as a schoolteacher and woos a mineowner (Rudy Vallee).
Preston Sturges's last Hollywood picture, The Beautiful Blonde from Bashful Bend ends his American directing career with a low point. The film certainly has some fun moments, and Betty Grable is great in her role as a gun-toting saloon singer, but overall the film lacks cohesion and good execution of the central plot.
