Robert Donat (1905-1958) was a British actor, perhaps best known for his Oscar-winning performance in the title role of the 1939 film Goodbye Mr Chips. Although Donat gained popularity through his film performances, he also performed regularly on stage and his voice was frequently heard on the radio.
R obert Donat was a quiet, self-effacing perfectionist who won Hollywood's Academy Award as best actor for his moving role of the gentle English schoolmaster in 1939's "Goodbye, Mr. Chips.". Donat's last film role was that of the mandarin in "The Inn of Sixth Happiness," in which he starred with Ingrid Bergman and Curt Jurgens. Donat made his first appearance on the stage in 1921.
