Lili Elbe is now quite well known as one of the first known trans women to undergo a series of gender confirmation surgeries in 1930/1931. Much less is known about three trans contemporaries of hers who underwent surgery a bit earlier: Dora Richter, Charlotte Charlaque and Toni Ebel.
Dora Rudolfine Richter, genannt „Dorchen“ (* 16. April 1892 in Seifen, Österreich-Ungarn als Rudolf Josef Richter; † 26. April 1966 in Allersberg, Deutschland), war die erste namentlich bekannte Person, die sich einer kompletten Geschlechtsangleichung (von Mann zu Frau) samt Vaginoplastik unterzog.

Born in the Erzgebirge region of Germany in 1891 and baptized Rudolph, Richter displayed a tendency from early childhood, to: “act and carry on in a feminine way.”
Richter was one of the first trans people to receive surgery to confirm her gender identity. Dora was not the only trans person employed by the Institute. As it was difficult to get a job when someone’s gender didn’t match the one they were assigned at birth, the Institute employed many former ‘patients’.

24 de jun. de 2024 · Dora Richter was the first transgender individual to undergo complete male-to-female genital surgery under Hirschfeld’s supervision. Richter was one of several transgender individuals under Hirschfeld’s care at the Berlin Institute for Sexual Research. In 1922 Richter underwent an orchidectomy and, in 1931, a penectomy and vaginoplasty.
