Not a sweet Hollywood shiny war movie, but a visceral roaring raid on your senses. The blood filled complexity of the soldier in WW1 is honoured here far more than many films ever do. The basic English dub can be forgiven due to the commitment of staying true to this true story, based on the banned book in Soviet times 'The Blizzard of Souls' which is the Latvian title.
