Clifford Porter Hall (September 19, 1888 – October 6, 1953) was an American character actor known for appearing in a number of films in the 1930s and 1940s. Hall typically played villains or comedic incompetent characters.

Porter Hall. Actor: Sullivan's Travels. For over two decades, Porter Hall made a career out of playing villains and pompous, unpleasant people. His movie career was not a mirror of his real life, however. Mr. Hall was well known as a generous and outgoing person who was well-liked by almost everybody he knew.
His job at the GLO was a political appointment by Hall. Hall ran for governor in the election of 1890 but lost. Porter resigned on January 21, 1891, the day after the new governor, Jim Hogg, was sworn in. Porter as a clerk at the First National Bank in Austin, c. 1892

Porter Hall was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and began his career touring as a stage actor. He appeared in many films, such as Double Indemnity, Miracle on 34th Street, and The Thin Man, often playing villains or comedic roles.
