26 de mar. de 2022 · Charles Hay, 20th Earl of Erroll William, eighth of Erroll, became a peer of parliament as Lord Hay in 1429 and his successor, another William, was belted Earl of Erroll in full Parliament by King James II in 1452, raising the family to the highest rank in the land at that time.
By the early 20th century, especially with the inflation and taxation that came with the First World War, the Aberdeenshire estates were under serious pressure and Charles, 20th Earl, reluctantly disposed of Slains in 1916, ending a 600 year association with the area.
