The Hit Sounds of Simon and Garfunkel was a "Cash-In" Simon and Garfunkel album released in 1966 by Pickwick Records. The label decided that it would capitalize on the duo's newfound fame by releasing this album, consisting of ten tracks recorded from the late 1950s while the duo still called themselves Tom and Jerry.
American folk rock duo Simon & Garfunkel recorded songs for five studio albums. Consisting of guitarist/singer-songwriter Paul Simon and singer Art Garfunkel , the duo first met as children in Forest Hills, Queens , New York in 1953, where they first learned to harmonize with one another and began writing original material.
Simon & Garfunkel were not informed of the song's remix until after its release. The remix hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week ending January 1, 1966, leading the duo to reunite and hastily record their second album, which Columbia titled Sounds of Silence in an attempt to capitalize on the song's success.
