Begum Sultan Shah Jehan (ruled from 1844 to 1860 and 1868 to 1901) - Shahjahan was the only surviving child of Sikandar Begum, sometime Nawab of Bhopal by correct title, and her husband Jahangir Mohammed Khan. She was recognised as ruler of Bhopal in 1844 at the age of six; her mother wielded power as regent during her minority.
At 43-years-old, Sultan Jahan was the oldest Begum of Bhopal. Her years as the heir were spent in immense difficulty due to the tension between her and her mother. By the time of her reign, the court was divided in loyalty between Sultan Jahan and her mother.

Sultan Jahan Begum (1858-1930), also known as Sultan Kaikhusrau Jahan Begum, was the last of four women nawabs (governors) who ruled the princely state of Bhopal during the British Raj.
Like her predecessors, Sultan Jahan is acknowledged for her contribution to the field of education and modernization of the Bhopal State. She presided over the All Women’s Conference on Educational Reform and was the founder and first Chancellor (and till today the only female Chancellor) of Aligarh Muslim University.
