18 de oct. de 2023 · Hedges’ groundbreaking guitar techniques didn’t pop up full-fledged on Aerial Boundaries. Many of them had already been evident on his 1981 debut album, also for Windham Hill, Breakfast in the Field. But in the intervening months, he’d developed them to an even more advanced degree.
Hedges' first two albums for Windham Hill were Breakfast in the Field and Aerial Boundaries. He wrote nearly exclusively in alternate tunings . His early recordings and most of the Breakfast in the Field album were recorded on the Ken DuBourg guitar and his Martin D-28, named "Barbara".
17 de feb. de 2010 · “Breakfast in the Field” is Hedges’ first album, and the seventeenth Windham Hill release. It’s a deceptive album – what sounds simple has incredible technical skills behind it; what sounds pastoral becomes funky and urban.
In 1980, he enrolled in Stanford University's renowned electronic music department, and while performing in nearby Palo Alto was spotted by Windham Hill label founder Will Ackerman, who immediately signed him to a contract; Hedges' debut LP, Breakfast in the Field, appeared in 1981.

In early 1981, Hedges signed a record deal with Windham Hill Records, a young start-up label focused on instrumental music, based in Palo Alto, California. When the label’s founder Will Ackerman saw Hedges perform at The New Varsity Theater, he signed Hedges on the spot.
