Sharks started in 1979 by vocalist Rick Czerny and lead guitarist, Spencer Sercombe. Czerny and Sercombe met in high school playing together and began writing original material. Spencer eventually began working for B.C. Rich guitars.

Founded in 1979 by singer Richard Black and guitarist Spencer Sercombe, under the name ‘Sharks’, they independently released their album titled Alter-Ego in 1982, and it wasn’t long before the band branded the LA music scene with their own signature style through their blistering live performances.
RICHARD BLACK and guitarist SPENCER SERCOMBE started the band as THE SHARKS in 1979. In the eighties, the band was a part of the now legendary L.A. Rock scene on Sunset Strip which included the likes of MOTLEY CRUE and CINDERELLA and just about every other hair-metal act you can think of.
