William Bentinck, 1st Earl of Portland, KG, PC (Dutch: Hans Willem Bentinck; 20 July 1649 – 23 November 1709) was a Dutch-born English nobleman who became in an early stage the favourite of William, Prince of Orange, Stadtholder in the Netherlands, and future King of England.
Hans Willem Bentinck (Diepenheim, 20 juli 1649 – Bulstrode (Buckinghamshire), 3 december 1709), 1e graaf van Portland, was een Nederlandse generaal, diplomaat en favoriet van stadhouder-koning Willem III. Hij was de zoon van Bernard Berend Bentinck (1597-1668) en Anna van Bloemendaal (1622-1685).
He played a central role in securing the Treaty of Ryswick in September 1697, was active in addressing the crisis of the Spanish succession through the First and Second Partition Treaties, and became William III's ambassador to France.

19 de sept. de 2022 · Hans Willem, Lord of Rhoon’s connections to England started earlier than the ‘Anglo-Dutch Moment’ of 1688-89. He had been appointed a page and chamberlain in the household of Prince William as a young man, and crucially, nursed him back to health after an attack of smallpox in 1675.
He died in Jamaica in 1726 at the relatively young age of 44. Family. In 1704 he married Lady Elizabeth Noel (d 1737), eldest daughter of the 2nd Earl of Gainsborough. They had five children: William (1709-1762), later 2nd Duke of Portland. George (1715-1759) Anne (d 1749) m Colonel Daniel Paul.
