Christian Gottfried Daniel Nees von Esenbeck (Erbach, una aldea de Odenwald, en el sur de la provincia de Hesse, 14 de febrero de 1776 - Breslau, actualmente Breslavia en Polonia, 16 de marzo de 1858) fue un botánico alemán.
German botanist, zoologist, physician and philosopher from Schloß Reichenberg bei Reichelsheim (Odenwaldkreis). He studied medicine, natural history and philosophy at Jena (1796-1799), was promoted to doctor of medicine in 1800 and practiced in Frankfurt for a while, but soon returned to science.

He was cofounder of a successful health insurance scheme. In 1845 he became the beloved leader (“Father Nees”) of a community of “Christian Catholics” following J. Ronge. This radical movement soon aroused the active opposition of the state.
