Located adjacent to the Shepherd School of Music on the Rice University campus is the Suzanne Deal Booth Centennial Pavilion, James Turrell's Twilight Epiphany Skyspace. Built in 2012, the pyramidal structure accommodates 120 people between two levels.
19 de ago. de 2013 · The latest star in that constellation, at one end of a long quadrangle at Rice University, is by the artist James Turrell (with Thomas Phifer and Partners as assisting architects). Titled Twilight Epiphany, it’s a 118-foot-square earthwork with grassy bermed walls enclosing a near-cubical bench-lined atrium, 28 feet square.
Twilight Epiphany, the James Turrell Skyspace at the Suzanne Deal Booth Centennial Pavilion, is Houston’s most iconic public artwork.
Turrell’s most ambitious project is Roden Crater, an observatory created inside an extinct volcano in Arizona. The artist has two additional public Skyspaces in Texas, both located in Houston: Twilight Epiphany at Rice University and One Accord at Live Oaks Friends (Quaker) Meeting House.
