21 de ene. de 2024 · Life rafts are survival equipment provided as a life-saving appliance on every seagoing merchant or passenger ship, in addition to the lifeboats. Life rafts are much easier to launch than lifeboats.
Regulation 17 - General requirements for lifeboats. (1) Construction of lifeboats. (a) All lifeboats shall be properly constructed and shall be of such form and proportions that they have ample stability in a seaway and sufficient freeboard when loaded with their full complement of persons and equipment.
A lifeboat or liferaft is a small, rigid or inflatable boat carried for emergency evacuation in the event of a disaster aboard a ship. Lifeboat drills are required by law on larger commercial ships. Rafts are also used. In the military, a lifeboat may double as a whaleboat, dinghy, or gig.
Open lifeboats, partially-enclosed lifeboats, and totally-enclosed lifeboats are each designed for different environmental conditions and capacity requirements. Others, like the hyperbaric lifeboats, have been specifically designed for one industry.
