Cletus is a man who lies with ease. After he takes a job as a social worker, Cletus begins to care about a little boy named Jorge who has been taken away from his mother, who was wrongly convicted of a crime and jailed.
The movie stars Treat Williams as a spoiled, arrogant upper-class kid who lies compulsively about everything. He thinks it's cute. Because he won't sign a piece of paper, he and his sister and brothers can't share in the family inheritance.
When Cletus becomes a social worker he's assigned the case of a boy called Jorge (with a 'J') who was taken from his mother. Cletus sets out to reunite Jorge with his mother, but to do so he has to fabricate many a story to keep Jorge from being adopted.
