General Thomas Gage (10 March 1718/19 – 2 April 1787) was a British Army general officer and colonial official best known for his many years of service in North America, including his role as British commander-in-chief in the early days of the American Revolution.

Thomas Gage, British general who successfully commanded the vast British military machine in North America for more than 10 years (1763–74). He failed to stem the tide of rebellion as military governor of Massachusetts (1774–75) at the outbreak of the American Revolution; he was replaced by Sir William Howe.
Major General Thomas Gage was commander-in-chief of British forces in North America and governor of Massachusetts Bay during some of the most chaotic years of the American Revolution. Born in late 1719 or early 1720, Gage attended Westminster School in central London from 1728 to 1736.
